Taxidermy red-headed woodpecker, "that came from naturalist -writer Dallas Sharp Home, Cushing Street...JPR.", mounted on a wood branch, 8" l. 

SNAKE SKINS AND TURTLE SHELLS

Boa skin, "From the exotic animal John H. Larson Collection, 137 Prosper St.,...His auto was often seen in downtown Hingham with a live leopard or panther on the seat.", "JPR"; another snake, 37" l; and two turtle shells. 

RATTLESNAKE

Diamond-backed rattlesnake (skin), "mounted on canvas by C.H. Reed in Florida at Charles Keith Home, Umatilla Florida 1937...ex. John H. Larson, coll", (JPR), 5' 6" l (without head), 8 1/2" across. 

TWO CIRCUS POSTERS

"Tex Carson's Wild Animal Circus", 28 1/2" x 20" w; Clyde Beatty and Cole Bros. "Big Otto", 28 1/2" x 21"; fold lines, bright colors. 

WATERCOLOR AND INK

19th c. walnut framed watercolor and ink, "A Catalogue, of the names, Ages and Employments of the Scholars who attend the W Male School of Hingham under the care of Joseph Wilder Jun R. ...", with a listing of approximately 80 students, dated October 22nd 1827 in lower right corner, green spread winged eagle with pink shield and yellow banner, 16 1/4" x 13 1/2" (sight). 

PULL TOYS

Two early pull toys: papier-mache on wood platform with small tin wheels, dapple gray horse, with wool mane and tail, painted features, 10" h, 10" l; and an elephant, with string tail and painted eyes and tusks, 6" h, 9" l; found in Elizabeth Coatsworth's "Littlest House...".  (see tag)

DOLL

Carved wood black doll of a male figure, painted eyes and lips, black cloth hair, blue patched overalls with striped red shirt, carved hands, signed on bottom of the foot "Carolyn John", 8 1/2" h.   

COVERED WAGON

Toy covered wagon, wood and cloth covering, pulled by two lithographed wood horses, with painted tin legs, cast iron wheels painted yellow, red painted wagon, some wear to litho on one side of horse, acquired from Charles Lane house, 8 1/2" h, 19" overall l. 

COVERED WAGON

Early toy covered wagon, pine, original painted green slatted wagon body, red painted and carved eight-spoke wheels, cloth covered top, original work brake mechanism, attached side barrel, hinged backboard, carved bench seat, carved horse harness, 11" h, 21" to front pole. 

TOY FIRE ENGINE

Early iron steam pump fire engine with driver, and with separate front horses and wheels, original black and red painted finish, one wheel on pump is loose, "from the attic of the Charles Lane home, east corner of Bank Ave and North St, Hingham Mass", 15 1/2" l. 

THREE CAST IRON TOYS

Horse and buggy with rider, old gray painted finish, 4 3/4" l; Train and coal tender, black with gilt, #10, 4 1/2" l; Fire wagon, old red, (old break in rear), 5" l; Hingham history. 

MICKEY MOUSE

"Fisher Price Toys", #476, pull toy of Mickey Mouse playing a drum, Walt Disney Productions, red base with blue wheels, missing a drumstick, some stains and pencil marks, Hingham history (Archibald Spaulding, near the 2nd Parish Church, Main St), 9" h, 8" l.   

"SILVER MOUNTAIN" TRAIN

Japanese friction, tin toy train, battery operated, "Silver Mountain", 3525, "Modern Toys" trademark, engineer head bobs to side, 16" l. 

SLIDE LID BOX

19th c. pine slide lid box, dovetailed, original green painted finish, six-section interior with collection of swirled marbles, made by William Otis Lincoln, signed on bottom "W.O.L. 1834", a full Hingham provenance is on the box, 2 1/2" h, 9" l. 

TOY CART

19th c. pull toy cart, pine, two cast iron spoked wheels with long tapered handle, branded "M. Burns" on the back, with Hingham history of the Burns family, along with a cast branding iron "M. Burns", 19" l, 4 1/4" w. 

DOLLS, DOLLS SHOES, AND WOOD SOLDIERS

Three small dolls with painted features, one marked "Nippon", 3", 4" and 5" h; Pair of brown leather shoes, "found under the eaves of the Beal House, corner of Hersey & Smith St"; Collection of nine carved wood soldiers, in red coats with tall black hats, with carved facial features, 5" h. 

Dolls were acquired from several Hingham families - see tags. 

TOY CANNON, CHECKERS, CROQUET

Cast iron toy or starter Cannon "Ultima Ratio Regis", missing a small piece, iron wheels, Hingham History JPR (Lane house), 7 3/4" l (cannon), 10" overall l; slide lid box with wooden checkers; and a slide lid box (13" l) with a game of tabletop croquet, (looks fairly complete). 

TWO TIN TOY TRUCKS

"Kingsbury Dump Truck", green with red wheels, driver with hat, found in Beal house on Hersey St (Oscar Beck), 10" l; Fire engine with driver, Japanese "Modern Toys" Trademark, 8" l. 

TIN AND IRON TOYS

Tin clown's head bank, tongue is mechanical, "J. Chein & Co", (from the Howe General Store), 5" h; Miniature three-car train (belonged to JPR as a boy), 7" l; Cast iron "Ice Wagon" toy, (ex. Norman Hersey - John's uncle), one leg is missing, 8" l; Cast iron toy train and coal tender "150", from John D. Long (Gov.) estate. 

ROLLING PIN AND HOLDER

Very unusual 19th c. rolling pin with holder in the form of a small chair, "acquired from Olive Jacob Loring, who purchased it from the Cushing House hotel in the 1940's, (also both are stamped "UH" for the Union House hotel - pre-Cushing House)", 7 1/2" h, 17" l (pin). 

CHILDREN'S GAMES

Two wooden ring toss games: box with label "Pitch-a-Ring", an alphabet board game, "pat. Feb 1886, ex. Charles Lane estate"; and "The White House Egg Rolling Game", slant board, "found in a closet of the Hingham Agricultural & Horticultural Society Bldg.", stamped on side "HA&HS", from the Fearing house.

TABLETOP PINBALL GAME

"Starlight" tin table top pinball game, "Durable Toy & Novelty Corp, NYC", good graphic color, some rust spots, overall good condition, (ex. Spaulding House, 703 Main St., Hingham, JPR). 

CHILDREN'S GAMES

Boxed "Horsman's" table top tennis, looks fairly complete, (ex. Mason Foley; ex. Cushing House Inn); Set of cardboard alphabet stacking blocks; "Pitch-a-Ring, Milton Bradley & Co.", (ex. Elwin Fearing, So. Pleasant St., Hingham); "Jolly Boys, Parker Bros.", with parts of original box. 

TOY CARRIAGE WITH DOLLS

19th c. pine doll's buggy, 25" l, red with original coach decoration, top intact (sans cloth cover), with small dolls including a wonderful handmade winged fairy with scallop shell shield, (ex. Dwiggens estate), includes photos of other handmade fairies in a forest scene.
