Dated 1838 and signed Orren Haskins, and John Allen

Exhibited in 1997 at the Shaker Museum and Library, Old Chatham, NY (see page 20 Making His Mark-the Work of Shaker Craftsman Orren Haskins)

Brother Orren at age 7 entered the Second Order of New Lebanon, Church Family in 1823 and became one of the Master Cabinetmakers of the Classic Shaker style.

In 2006 Willis Henry Auctions, Inc. set the World Record Price for Shaker Furniture at  $491,000 

for a Shaker Seed Desk  by Orren Haskins (also pictured in Making his Mark...page 26) .

"Frederick W. Evans" CANE  Elder Evans of Mt. Lebanon (1808-1893) was the most well known and respected Shaker in the latter half of the 19th c.

 

SPIT BOX  Maple and pine, original chrome yellow painted finish, three fingers,

stenciled black "6" on the side (indicating the room number), c. 1830-1840, 3 3/4" h, 9" dia

    

An Important Shaker Cupboard Over Double Case of Drawers

Signed in two places, "Made by Amos Stewart February 1839."; originally purchased in

the early 1940’s from Sister Sadie Neale of the Mt. Lebanon, NY Shakers.

May have been used in the infirmary as one of the lower drawers is fitted with lettered

compartments, possibly for medicine bottles.

Miniature blanket chest, 6" w, in original bittersweet paint and a surprisingly bright chrome yellow interior
