 1L.Uramot Baining People, New Britain Island, Gazelle Peninsula, mask, (Kavat Sowelmot) bark cloth, fiber, bamboo, red and black pigment, symbolizing a Tree Spirit, worn by young men at initiations and were danced in all night retreating back into the bush at dawn, large circular eyes for night vision, open mouth through which the dancer sees, and a large tongue-like projection at the bottom, 29" h.
